WE DIDN`T START THE FIRE

Empezamos nuevo curso en el nuevo IES Vicente Verdú. ¿Sabéis quién era este periodista, escritor y pintor ilicitano? Escribió muchos años en el diario más leído e influyente de España, en El País. Para comenzar FUERTES este curso, en cuanto a la materia de Historia (aunque sea de España) voy a utilizar esta canción de Billy Joel porque cita a más de 40 personajes y países en su letra. La idea es ver cuántos de vosotros conocéis a los personajes. Es de esperar que os suene un tal John F. Kennedy o Walt Disney o, quizás, Marilyn Monroe...como vemos no cita a ningún español (salvo al filósofo Santayana, nacido en España, pero que vivió toda su vida en EE.UU. y norteamericano se consideraba) pero sería conveniente, más si habéis cursado la asignatura de Historia del Mundo Contemporáneo, que os sonaran muchos más (no todos, obviamente). Como un juego iremos viendo uno a uno, los personajes, películas, países, acontecimientos...que nos han configurado cultural y científicamente, siendo "hijos" del imperio norteamericano. Vemos que las tendencias van hacia un nuevo eje geopolítico con centro en Asia, pero todavía la influencia USA (tienen bases militares en España, ¿cómo puede ser esto?) es principal en nuestro mundo diario (celebramos Halloween, vestimos vaqueros, escuchamos rock, pop u otras músicas americanas, vemos cine made in Hollywood, etc.). Me ha parecido una forma interesante de entrar en un nuevo curso, el que os llevará a una mayor sabiduría y acceso a la universidad el próximo año.
